Who am I?
Hi, my name is Wayne Newland. Thank you for visiting my web site. I'm currently living in New England and have a passion for photography.
Having an interest in photography for more years than I can remember I consider myself an advanced amateur photographer. Over the years I've done nearly every genre of photography at some point, some of it commercially. Most of my commercial work has been in real estate photography and product photography and videography for the company where I worked for 25+ years.
Back in my film days I pretty much shot color positive film developing it myself and doing color enlargements. Although I've also done some black and white work as well.
When it comes to display of photography, I am a big proponent of the printed image. Yeah, I know this is a photo web site but still. Except for very large prints, I print them myself, mostly on canvas or art papers. I even print for friends, family, and associates occasionally. For prints larger than 16" x 20" or metal prints I usually find a local print shop that can handle my needs. Support your local economy.
Even though you've probably never heard of me, not being famous or anything, I do have works hanging in homes and offices around the world. My main personal interest, and most of what you will find here, are photos of landscape, architecture, and subjects of personal interest from places I've been, places I've lived, around the neighborhood, etc. So, if you look at a photo and wonder "why did he shoot that," don't. It's just something I saw and liked and posted here.
For equipment geeks
My first serious film camera was a Pentax Spotmatic SLR, moved to a Minolta XD-11 and then my first fully automatic SLR a Canon EOS 620 which I still have today. Interestingly my old Canon lenses still work on my latest DSLR. My first digital camera was a Canon Powershot G2. My first DSLR was the Canon EOS 10D. For some strange reason the digital world seems to require continual upgrades. In that vein I have gone on in the Canon EOS line to a D60, 30D, 5D, 5D II, 5D III, a 5D IV and now a mirrorless EOS R5. While the 5D IV and the 5R are my main photo tools, I do have a Powershot G12 and Powershot G1x III that I also use. Sometimes the G1x is the only camera I carry.
My arsenel of lenses include the following: EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM, TS-E 17mm f/4L, TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II, EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM, EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM, EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM, EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM, Extender EF 1.4x III, and Extender EF 2x II. With the recent addition of the R5 I've added the RF 24-105mm f4L USM lens and EF to RF adapers to continue using EF lenses.
For aerial photography and videography I use a DJI Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 and a DJI Mavic 3 Pro.
Editing or processing is primarily done with Photoshop. Been using it since about version 3 where I was doing a lot of product photography and publishing catalogs. Raw conversions are done in Adobe Camera Raw. I do use a number of plugins with Photoshop my main set being NIK Collection from DXO. I've been dabbling lately with Tony Kuyper's Luminosity Mask Panel. For video work it's Adobe Premier Pro and associated Adobe products.
Most of my work is printed on an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 or Epson SureColor P600.
Oh, and I'm a Windows user on a PC, no Macs here.
